Mounting
Two ways to stand it up
Pick whichever suits the room. Same board either way, same price to you: nothing.
Wall mount — French cleat
A French cleat carries the board flat and level on the wall, near the host stand or just inside the door. Nothing on the floor, nothing to walk into.
Floor easel — weighted base
An adjustable metal easel with roughly 30 lb of ballast fixed around the base for tip resistance. Move it where the queue forms; no holes in anyone's wall.
Sizes
Standard or large
Standard — 24" x 36"
The everyday board. Fits beside a host stand or on the wall by the door.
Same 6 ad slots either way. Nothing to pay whichever you choose.
Large — 36" x 48"
For high-traffic rooms and long sight lines. Nearly twice the ad area.
Same 6 ad slots either way. Nothing to pay whichever you choose.
Questions
The things restaurants actually ask
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no cost to the restaurant, now or at the end of the 12 months. We make our money from the 6 local businesses that advertise along the bottom of the board. A full standard board is $3,600 of advertising, and that pays for manufacture, artwork and installation with a margin left over. That is the whole model.
Who ends up on my board?
Local service businesses — the trades, professional services, clinics. One business per category, so you will never have two roofers on the same board. You get to see the list before we print, and you can veto anyone you would rather not be associated with. No explanation needed.
Wall or floor stand?
Your call. The wall mount uses a French cleat, which carries the board flat and level and takes about ten minutes to fit. The floor option is an adjustable metal easel with roughly 30 lb of ballast fixed around the base. If you rent and cannot put holes in the wall, take the easel.
Can it go outside?
We would keep it indoors. The board writes with liquid chalk markers, and liquid chalk runs in rain — a patio board will be blank after the first storm. Direct Texas sun will also fade the printed ad strip well before the year is out. A covered patio is worth a conversation; an open one is not.
How much work is this for my staff?
None beyond writing on it. You do not have to change the specials daily — plenty of hosts write a week at a time. We supply the correct liquid chalk markers, and the only real rule is not to use a permanent marker on it, because that does not come off a black board.
What do I have to agree to?
Keep the board visible, in the spot we agreed, for 12 months. That is the whole commitment. The advertisers have prepaid for the year on the strength of it, which is why it matters.
What happens after 12 months?
We come back and ask if you want to carry on. If you do, we refresh the ad strip with that year's advertisers. If you would rather not, we take the board and the mount away and that is the end of it — no fee, no notice period.
Can I have it taken down early?
Tell us and we will collect it. We would ask for a little notice so we can talk to the 6 advertisers who prepaid, and where we can we move their ads to another board nearby.
